Spring 2013 Doctoral Lunch Hour

“Making Sense of Methods”
12:30pm – 1:30pm
Founders Hall, Room 602
Hit the ground running in the spring semester! Starting this month, SPP will host a brown-bag lunch series for PhD students to meet and chat on a regular basis. In this informal setting, students at every stage of the program have an opportunity to have conversations with each other. The hope is that these connections can provide support for students during their studies and create a foundation for a scholarly network after graduation.
Each lunch hour will include a suggested theme to guide conversations. Attendees can run with this theme while also being free to discuss other topics of interest.
Bring your lunch to room 602 on Thursday, January 24th to talk about “Making Sense of Methods.”
Making choices about course selection, particularly methods courses, is a perennial conversation among SPP students. How do you decide the methods you will need for your research as it unfolds? What choices have worked for others? At the semester’s opening lunch hour, you will have an opportunity to explore conversation in a casual setting with faculty members and fellow students. You can chat with other members of the SPP community about advanced methods options at SPP, GMU, and the consortium. Whether you have experiences to share or questions to ask (or if you just want to enjoy the social hour), please join us.
